Four people have died in a collision between two sedans in Mpumalanga.
The head-on collision occurred on the R42 between Delmas and Bronkhorstspruit at around 05:30 on Friday.
Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson Moeti Mmusi said:The deceased, two males and two females, include both drivers and two passengers. They were certified dead at the scene.
Another two people were seriously injured, and they are receiving medical attention at a hospital in Delmas, according to Mmusi.
“It is not clear…what caused the crash, but the investigation is already under way,” he said.
Use roads cautiously
This is the second fatal accident in the province in as many days.
On Thursday, two people died when a light delivery vehicle crashed on the R40 between Mbombela and Barberton.
The deceased were passengers at the back of the vehicle, Mmusi said. Five other people were injured – three of them seriously – when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe has urged motorists to use the roads cautiously.
“We are deeply saddened by the unending loss of lives on our roads. That is why we are again reminding motorists that a failure to obey the rules is deadly. We should all play our part by using the road with greater care at all times to save lives,” Shongwe said.
