The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa has increased to a total of 23,615, with the death toll now at 481.

Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize issued out an update on Monday evening, confirming that the number of known infections has risen by 1 032 since the last figure was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa during his address on Sunday.
He also revealed that 52 more deaths were recorded over the past 24 hours, the highest toll reported on a single day since the first case was recorded in South Africa
The majority of the new cases come from the Western Cape, which continues to account for more than half of the country’s known infection.
The province’s toll now stands at 15 396 with 330 deaths, the latter representing an increase of 49 from the number reported on Sunday.
Mkhize said a total of 596 777 tests have been conducted, with the public sector accounting for the majority. In the past 24 hours, 12 992 tests were done.
As of Monday, the number of recoveries from the coronavirus stands at 11 917, bringing the active cases to 11 698.
