Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, on Tuesday 2 June, announced that the confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa have risen to 35 812. Mkhize announced the numbers while in the Western Cape to assess the readiness of intervention teams in hotspots.
The total number of cases is an increase of 1 455, as the total number of confirmed cases stood at 34 357 on Monday 1 June.
A total of 761 534 tests have been conducted to date with 18 792 tests done in the last 24 hours. Mkhize noted that the total number of recoveries and deaths would be updated in due course.
Latest COVID-19 cases by province as of Tuesday 2 June
The following confirmed COVID-19 cases have been detected in each province as of Tuesday:
- Gauteng – 4 276 cases;
- Western Cape – 23 583 cases;
- KwaZulu-Natal – 2 637 cases;
- Free State – 299 cases;
- Eastern Cape – 4 324 cases;
- Limpopo – 193 cases;
- Mpumalanga – 132 cases;
- North West – 271 cases; and
- Northern Cape – 91 cases.
This comes to a total of 35 812 confirmed cases.
The Western Cape is still the COVID-19 epicentre with the most positive cases in the country.
