A truck driver from Mozambique arrested at the Lebombo border with drugs estimated to be more than R10 million on Monday morning has been remanded in custody.
According to the police, the man was arrested at 6-am when the border opened. When his truck raised suspicions with extra compartment and a trailer.
He was arrested with a female occupant in the truck and they were both charged with drug smuggling and dealing in drugs.
Part of the items they were found in position includes contraband Godorns dry gin.
“The man was arrested by the Lebombo border police who were doing their routine checks when they got suspicious from a truck that had additional compartments.
Upon search heroine and crystal-meth worth R10 million was found hidden with undisclosed a mouth of cash and the goods dry gins,” said the spokesman of the Mpumalanga police Brigadier Leonard Hlathi.
The two appeared in the Komatipoort magistrates court on Tuesday and they were remained in custody pending a formal bail application.
They were not asked to plead on charges of drug smuggling and dealing in illicit goods.
